Spirometry is the workhorse of pulmonary lung function testing, and can provide significant information about patient’s lung function. Spirometry is an established method to detect both obstructive and restrictive respiratory illnesses. However, spirometers have not seen much use outside the PFT lab due to the fact that commercial spirometers are designed to work in clinical environments, to be operated by well-trained technicians. As a result, spirometry remains generally limited to larger hospitals and dedicated Pulmonary Function Testing (PFT) labs.
Cognita Labs has developed PulmoScan, a next generation of smart portable airway assessment device, with an assistive coaching tablet application and a cloud support. PulmoScan’s innovative zero-effort quick test makes it possible to integrate respiratory testing with on the go workflows such as high volume clinics, pediatric offices where quality spirometry is often difficult.

We have developed world’s first inhaler attachment for MDI, that can measure inhaler use with high granularity. Cognita’s CapMedic provides real-time audio-visual interactive guidance on correct use of inhalers and also measure correctness of inhaler use, time and frequency of its use. CapMedic is also a home spirometer, measures FEV1 and PEF.

Gaurav brings a rare blend of engineering precision and entrepreneurial vision to Cognita Labs. With a background in biomedical innovation and a deep commitment to solving real-world clinical challenges, he leads the company’s mission to transform respiratory care through accessible, data-driven technology. At Cognita, he raised multimillion R&D funds, scaled initial vision into FDA 510(k) cleared devices and led widescale adoption through strategic partnerships worldwide. Prior to founding Cognita Labs, Gaurav held research and leadership role in product development and R&D across academic collaborations.
Rajoshi is the scientific force behind Cognita Labs’ patient-centric innovations. With a PhD in Electrical and Computer Engineering from Rice University, her research has focused on aerosol drug deposition and quantified inhaler-use behavior, bridging engineering precision with clinical relevance.
She co-founded Cognita Labs to address the real-world gaps in respiratory care, drawing on early academic colloborations. Her work has led to multiple FDA filings and the development of groundbreaking tools like CapMedic and UltraSpiro, designed to simplify inhaler technique and enable remote lung monitoring.
Rajoshi’s leadership ensures that every Cognita Labs solution is rooted in rigorous science, clinical empathy, and a deep understanding of how patients and providers interact with technology
Vince joined Cognita Labs to help turn breakthrough respiratory technology into real-world adoption, with a focus on strategic growth and practical implementation. With a background in teaching, talent development, and digital marketing, he brings a unique lens on how innovation impacts both clinical workflows and patient care.
Known for operational clarity and frontline insight, Vince works closely with healthcare teams to simplify adoption of tools like PulmoScan—making lung testing easier for staff, smoother for patients, and more accessible for clinics that need it most.
Prior to Cognita, he led patient experience transformation at one of the Midwest’s largest psychiatric clinics, and earlier helped major NE Ohio brands navigate early digital media. He also branded and launched a hormone replacement therapy category in Cleveland, building both the company and the market around it.
Ashu is a scientist at heart and a builder by nature. As a professor of electrical and computer engineering at Rice University, he’s spent decades pushing the boundaries of wireless systems and digital health, earning recognition as a Fellow of IEEE, ACM, and the National Academy of Inventors. His research has led to over 22,000 citations, multiple patents, and several FDA-cleared medical devices.
At Cognita Labs, Ashu brings that same scientific rigor to real-world challenges in respiratory care. He co-founded the company to turn deep tech into frontline tools – ones that clinics can use to diagnose and manage chronic lung conditions with speed, clarity, and ease. His work bridges lab and clinic, combining research excellence with a relentless focus on accessibility and impact.
